Exercising and losing weight will help most men and women reduce their pain. Perhaps you carry excess weight around your midsection and you strain your back every time you get up or take a walk. After awhile this back strain causes inflammation of your muscles and spinal disks.
With proper exercise and diet you will lose weight and reduce the strain on your back. Martial arts is a great form of exercise because it involves your complete body. When you run you exercise your legs primarily and when you lift weights you exercise only the area of your body you use to lift the weights.
However, martial arts is a total body exercise that strengthens and stretches your body. Body strength is important, but as you age, it is more important to develop body flexibility.
Lack of flexibility could be another reason you have back pain. Your lifestyle could contribute to your less than flexible back muscles and spine.
You might spend an hour or more each day driving a car. You sit stiff and stationary the whole time behind the wheel. Then you sit in front of a computer for eight hours a day at work. Then you spend a few hours in front of the TV at night.
Throughout the whole day have you done nothing to stretch your back and by this time you need more than reaching down to touch your toes a few times to relieve all of the tightness you have developed over the years of this daily routine.
Martial arts is an effective way to exercise and stretch out your back. Martial arts is founded on body flexibility. This is crucial to the exercise because martial arts requires that you move freely so that you can throw punches and kick.
You will learn proper series of muscle stretching and strengthening that will release tension in your back while building up your spine and back muscles.
People also have back pain because they simply have a weak back. This is easy to understand because muscles have to be worked in order to remain strong. However, if you do not have a job that requires physical labor then your back is not being strengthened.
Martial arts will develop your muscles, and you will build confidence as you participate more and more in this great exercise. And this is not because you are learning how to protect yourself in a fight but because you are building physical strength.
But when your build up your muscles and relieve your back pain, you will develop a natural confidence you might not have had before. Before starting any exercise program check with your doctor. I am a back pain sufferer, but also have a lot of joint pain. I know martial arts has a lot of high-impact, so is there anything you would recommend that’s a little less impact on your joints?
