High Field Stand-Up MRI vs. the Traditional Open MRI

Washington Open MRI now has the world’s only high field full-body Open MRI scanner that can scan patients in the sitting or standing position – the “position of pain”.

Our new Stand-Up Open MRI technology allows you to watch TV during your Open MRI scan!
No more fear of claustrophobia or being squeezed into a tube.

Washington Open MRI’s Stand-Up Open-MRI is the world’s only Patient-Friendly™ scanner.
Our Open MRI technology is totally open!

This technological breakthrough is second to none in the MRI imaging world, and fully reimbursed by all insurance carriers at no additional cost to the patient.

The revolutionary open MRI scanner features the only MRI-compatible, motorized, multi-positional, patient positioning system, which has been engineered to be fully functional Inside the scanner’s magnetic field. It can position the patient for the conventional “lie-down” MRI scanning, or upright for weight-bearing studies. The full length of the spine can be imaged in the normal weight-bearing posture, even with the patient touching their toes for full flexion images of the lumbar spine. Unusual patient positions that are impossible on the older-technology “lie-down” MRI scanners are routine on Washington Open MRI’s new Stand-Up Open MRI.

The patient positioning system is tilted back slightly in order to stabilize the patient and avoid body motion during stand-up scanning. Patients can be positioned facing sideways, which enables a large range of motion for scans of the shoulder. Scans can also be obtained with lateral flexion of the lumbar spine. This new Stand-Up Open MRI is based on FONAR’s proven high-field technology, which means it delivers exceptional scanning speed and high-resolution imaging second to none. The combination of the transaxial magnetic field and any of FONAR’s array of high signal-to-noise solenoidal surface coils is one of the key reasons why the new Stand-Up Open MRI is second-to-none in image quality and as the patent-holder for MRI we will always be at the cutting-edge of MRI technology. And as FONAR is the patent-holder of this technology Its full range of advanced software features and state-of-the-art pulse sequences provide unparalleled diagnostic precision.

In Medicine…

Often an upright position is the only position in which the patient’s symptoms occur. Certain cardiovascular and neurological disorders exhibit their symptoms primarily only when the patient is upright. The same is true of the GI tract and the neck, spine and joints, including hips, knees and ankles. Coupled with MRI’s unparalleled ability to “see” soft tissues, Stand-Up Open MRI gives physicians a more global view of pathology and its impact on function.

From the perspective of medicine, Stand-Up Open MRI provides a dramatic view of the body’s interior available BY NO other medical imaging technology. For the first time, Washington Open MRI brings to the medical practice the newfound ability to see all the body’s organs and tissues in their normal position of function – upright.

This technological breakthrough is second to none in the MRI imaging world, and fully reimbursed by all insurance carriers at no additional cost to the patient.

OUCH MY ACHING BACK!

Posted by Back Exerciser on November 28th, 2009

Living with pain can be debilitating. Sometimes it feels there is no relief in site.  What is one to do for those aches and pains from arthritis, joint and muscle related discomfort?

The emotional toll of constant pain also can make pain worse. Anxiety, stress, depression, anger and fatigue interact in complex ways with chronic pain and may actually decrease the body’s production of natural painkillers.Furthermore, such negative feelings may add to the level of substances that amplify sensations of pain, causing a vicious cycle of pain.

If you or someone you love suffers from pain it is important to seek help. There are several different courses of treatment available for pain relief so that you or your loved one can start living comfortably again. Learn about backache treatments.

Take these steps to begin living without chronic pain:

  • Learn stress management techniques such as how to relax through deep breathing.
  • Pace yourself on the “good days” without pain by setting achievable goals and don’t over do it.
  • Mull over positive thoughts.
  • Consent for “rest time” in your daily schedule.
  • Join a support group for pain sufferers like the American Pain Society.
  • Know your medications, including expected benefits and side effects. When the “cost” exceeds the benefit, ask your doctor if something else might work better.
  • Eliminate alcohol from your diet. Pain often upsets sleep and alcohol can further disrupt the sleep cycle.
  • Stop smoking. Cigarettes can impair healing.

How to treat your pain:

Physicians and patients alike are often reluctant to use narcotics, the most potent alternative, because of the stigma surrounding them. The word `morphine' frightens people. To many patients, morphine either means death or addiction. New research shows that prolonged pain can cause lasting changes in the spinal column and the brain stem, turning what had been fairly minor discomfort into chronic pain signals. Do not just grin and bear it – treat it.

If you’re a pain sufferer, here’s some good news: Plenty of options exist to ease aches, and many of them don’t come in pill form. A profit of trying out alternative therapies is that you may find a pain relief option that works for you. We all know we can put a price on pain relief. So don’t give up on finding a reprieve for your affliction. Some alternatives for treatment:

  • Physical therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Relaxation techniques (deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, visualization, massage, yoga, and Tai Chi.
  • Exercise
  • Diet
  • Topical treatments

A topical treatment, can provide you with relief from the pain associated with arthritis, backaches, sprains, strains, bruises, aching joints and muscles.

One option is Blue Chill, a no-side effect, unique pain-stopping trio containing:

1. Powerful and 100% safe Lidocaine which opposes pain signals from the skin to the brain.

2. Glucosamine helps strengthen muscle cartilage to reduce aching pain.

3. Capsaicin relieves pain and reduces swelling for many painful conditions including trauma, osteoarthritis and bursitis.

The potent ingredients in Blue Chill have shown to give you pain relief in only minutes that can last soothingly for hours.
