Alan Wallace.  The retreat incorporates two methods for cultivating meditative quiescence or shamatha.  It teaches the practice of “mindfulness of breathing”, which is a successful way for relaxing the body and calming the mind. A second method taught is both a shamatha practice and vipashyana, “insight meditation” or “settling the mind in its natural state”.

PIA  prides itself on being a responsible member of the community.  It is committed to operating with integrity as an equal opportunity employer and adhering to the highest principled standards to realize the intellectual, physical, creative and spiritual potential of all students, members and participants of the three centres.

Loosing Weight Sensibly

Posted by Back Exerciser on April 24th, 2010

Those people are are overweight or obese don’t really diet, but put their energy toward working out and starting better eating habits, in accordance with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, emphasizing lowered fat consumption, and an increase in vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Others who are dieting tell of needing assistance along the way to reach their weight loss goals. For those serious of dieting, they should consider a diet plan.

Fad diets that ignore the principles of the Dietary Guidelines may result in short term weight loss, but may do so at the risk of your health. How yougo about managing your weight has a lot to do with your long-term success. Unless you’re an official lard ass who’s massively obese, then be patient and drop the weight slowly and reasonably.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Check with your doctor. Before you consume less calories and start working out, as the lawyers say, consult your doctor first.

  • A sensible diet plan calls for loosing about two pounds per week, while consuming a low calorie but balanced diet plan. A diet including at least five servings of day of fruits and vegetables, which include whole grains, lean meat and low fat dairy. It may not produce headlines, but it can reduce waistlines. This isn’t some hyped up news – this is just common sense. To no surprise, this is the most product and health way to go.

  • Make time in your day for some form of physical activity. Start by taking the stairs at work, walking up or down an escalator, parking at the far end of a lot instead of cruising around for the closest spot. Assuming your doctor says your not going to die the next day, then you can start to add some regular daily exercise. Walking is an underrated form of exercise that everyone can do.

  • Consider the benefits of moderate weight loss. Loosing 5-10% of your extra weight really pays off in great health benefits and increased stamina. If you are 5 feet and 4 inches tall, and weigh in at 150 pounds, then loosing around 10% of your weight would be a good mark to aim for. Those who best manage to loose the pounds and keep it off do so when it’s slow and steady.

For those who are overweight, the first start of loosing weight is making the heartfelt commitment to really making it stick this time, to loose that excess blubber once and for all. If you have this much weight, then you should consider a diet plan. You should be driving towards a life where you both eat and exercise in moderation.
