Why Back Exercises Should Be A Regular Part Of Any Exercise Program

When working out, a lot of people forget about one of the most important muscle groups in their entire body: their back muscles. The muscles of the back are part of the body’s core and strengthening these muscles through regular back exercises offers many benefits to those who perform them. The back muscles support the movements made by the body and when you have a strong back, your entire body becomes stronger and more flexible.

Additionally, a strong back will be much less prone to injury and proper exercise will enhance the strengthening of the back muscles. As such, it is always a wise idea to integrate a number of back exercises into your regular workout regimen. In general, there are four areas that back exercises can greatly improve. These four areas are as follows:

Flexibility

We are capable of a wider range of motion than we may be aware. We lose a lot of flexibility through the things we spend our days doing (such as spending all day at a desk while working).

By using regular back exercises, stretching and proper strength training, you can regain this lost flexibility and enjoy the wide range of natural flexibility which we inherently possess.

Relaxation

When we talk about relaxation in this context, we mean being able to relax your muscles consciously. This ability can be learned through the performance of slow stretching exercises as a regular part of your workout routine.

When you learn to relax your muscle groups, you can relax one and allow the opposing muscle groups to conserve energy and work a little less hard. This allows this muscle group to work for a longer stretch of time without becoming exhausted. Back exercises, of course are particularly good for relaxing the muscles of the back which can relieve back pain and allow your entire body to perform more efficiently.

Strength

When you work out a muscle group, the muscles become stronger. So, when you engage in regular back exercises, you will discover your strength increasing significantly. Some may wonder what the benefits to increased strength may be if one is not looking to perform heavy lifting. The reason is that anytime you perform any activity you will need to use some form of strength.

There is basically no kind of lifting which doesn’t rely on the back muscles, since they are engaged when almost any muscle group is called into use. When you strengthen your back muscles, all of your lifting becomes less difficult ‚Äìand when you strengthen your back, you reduce the strain all around and significantly reduce the potential for injury to occur.

Body Awareness

Back exercises also promote greater body awareness. You’ll be more conscious of aches, strain and muscle stress and what they mean. You’ll learn how to listen to your body and have a better understanding of what needs to be done to alleviate pain when it happens.

If you want to become stronger, more flexible and enjoy better health and well being all around, back exercises are a necessity. Any exercise program should include back exercises to support your strength, improve posture and ensure better health.

Exercises For Lower Back Pain – What You Need To Know

Posted by Back Exerciser on August 4th, 2009

Everyone who suffers from back pain knows that it can greatly limit what they do in life. Even the simplest of things suddenly becomes extremely hard to deal with. While this is a terrible thing, it is something that everyone will most likely experience first hand at some point in their lives.  Fortunately, a simple program of exercises for lower back pain can drastically reduce chronic pain.

The reasons for the pain vary from person to person. Some of the common causes are too much standing, sitting, sleeping on a bad mattress, aging, a bad sports injury, and childbirth. We each need the health of our backs to be in tip top shape to function properly in all aspects of life. The good thing is that exercising can help you to improve the strength of your back as well as decrease the pain.

There are even things that a person can do on a daily basis that is causing strain to the back that they do not even realize. This is because the pain slowly builds up over time. To find relief from sudden onsets of back pain you may want to sit down for a minute and put some focus into where you are experiencing the discomfort the most.

Out of all of the areas on the back, the lower back seems to be the area that gives patients the biggest problem. This is because almost anything that you could think of doing would involve the use of your back. You could be running around the house or sitting on the couch, you are still using your back.

Emotional stress may also contribute to your pain. Stretching your lower back will ease some of the tension and take some of the stress off of the muscles. Did you know that too much tension in your back muscles can actually pull your spine out of alignment and create poor posture?

These exercises are extremely important because stress in our lives is not something that is easily avoidable. There is a yoga posture called the “plank pose” and it is basically holding your body in the top of a pushup position. This strengthens the back muscles and will allow you to find relief from the pain associated with the back tension.

You will want to perform stretching exercises on a regular basis. You will relieve a lot of tension and possibly even lengthen some muscles. This means that over time you will be able to have the strong muscles that you need to support your body. You will see that using these exercises are something that you should have been doing for a long time.

With all of the other things to worry about in the world, it is nice to know that a bad back is not something that you will have to stress about. You will be able to be pain free, all form the daily stretching exercises. You will be able to align your spin and you will be able to finally sit, stand, walk, job, or lay down without feeling all of the pain that you were growing used to.  Just put a little effort to improve posture and you’ll be happy with the results.
